Chapter One: Introduction
1.1 Background of the Study
Water conservation is a critical issue in Dambatta Local Government Area (LGA), Kano State, due to the increasing demand for water resources amidst a growing population and climate challenges. The successful implementation of water conservation projects in the region, however, is deeply influenced by geopolitical factors, including political will, resource allocation, and regional cooperation. The geographical location of Dambatta within Kano State, its proximity to other major water resources, and its local political dynamics all contribute to the management and distribution of water resources (Sani & Umar, 2023).
Dambatta’s water conservation initiatives have been subject to political competition and prioritization, with some areas receiving more attention due to political affiliations. The state government’s approach to water management is often shaped by regional considerations, such as the need to balance the interests of rural and urban populations and manage cross-border water resources (Adamu & Ibrahim, 2024). This study will assess how these geopolitical factors impact water conservation efforts in Dambatta and provide recommendations for improving project implementation in the region.
1.2 Statement of the Problem
Water conservation projects in Dambatta have been plagued by challenges related to governance, resource mismanagement, and regional political dynamics. Despite the availability of water resources, inefficient management and lack of coordinated efforts have hindered the success of water conservation initiatives. This study aims to assess the role of geopolitical factors in these challenges and suggest ways to improve water conservation strategies in Dambatta LGA.
